Prof. Guanrong Chen

Biography
Professor Guanrong (Ron) Chen received the M.Sc. degree in computational mathematics from Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University, China in 1981, and the Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics from Texas A&M University, USA in 1987. He has been a chair professor (now, “Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund Chair Professorship in Engineering”) and the founding director of the Centre for Complexity and Complex Networks at City University of Hong Kong since 2000. Prior to that, he was a tenured full professor at the University of Houston, Texas, USA.
Prof. Chen was elected Member of the Academy of Europe (Academia Europaea) in 2014, Member of the European Academy of Engineering and Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences in 2015. He was elected IEEE Fellow in 1997 and became a Life Fellow in 2019. He was conferred Honorary Doctorates by Saint Petersburg State University, Russia in 2011 and by University of Le Havre, Normandy, France in 2014.
He is a Highly Cited Researcher in Engineering, the 2011 Euler Gold Medallist named by the Euler Foundation of Russia, and a recipient of the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Chinese State Natural Science Awards as well as 11 best journal paper awards. His main research pursuit is in nonlinear systems control and dynamics, as well as complex networks. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos.

Prof. Zhiyun Lin

Biography
Zhiyun Lin is currently a tenured Full Professor and Head of the School of Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Southern University of Science and Technology. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Toronto, Canada, in 2005, and worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate there from 2005 to 2007.
He joined the College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University in 2007 as a research professor and was promoted to a tenured full professor in 2011. In 2017, he moved to Hangzhou Dianzi University and served as Director of the Artificial Intelligence Institute. He joined Southern University of Science and Technology in 2021. He has held visiting professor positions at The Australian National University, University of Cagliari, University of Newcastle, University of Technology Sydney and Yale University.
He is a technical committee member of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) on Networked Systems and on Discrete Event and Hybrid Systems, and an Associate Editor of several international journals. His research interests include multi-agent systems, distributed artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and swarm robots, embodied AI and cyber-physical systems.
He has authored or coauthored two monographs and over 260 peer-reviewed papers. According to Google Scholar, his work has been cited over 9,700 times. From 2014 to 2025, he was consecutively selected for Elsevier’s list of Most Cited Chinese Researchers. He is a Foreign Full Member of the Russian Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of IEEE, a Fellow of IET and a Fellow of AAIS.
